Major Earthquake in India - January 26, 2001
An earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale hit the Indian state of Gujarat on Friday morning, January 26, 2001 (2 Shevat, 5761). Thousands of people were killed by the quake, which was centered near the Indian town of Bhuj.
